Osteopathy, what for  ...?

Osteopathy is a medicine using treatment techniques applied to the body only throught the hands of the practitioner. It is therefore a gentle therapy that can completely complement conventional medical treatment, or even replace it in some cases. It is suitable for animals of all ages (from newborn to senior) and practicing all types of activities.

Osteopathic treatment does not cause disabling side effects , unlike some treatments used in conventional medicine. It is therefore non-invasive . Throughout the sessions, I will strive to work in harmony and listen to each of my patients. An osteopathic treatment requires continuous communication between the practitioner and the patient, the hands in contact with the animal are the only tool for achieving it.

The osteopath does not only takes care of the symptoms showed by the animal: he searches for and treats their origins .

Integrating regular osteopathic aftercare will visibly bring long-term well-being to your animals.

  -  Providing comfort to animals by overcoming recalcitrant symptoms, avoiding chimical treatment as much as possible with sometimes serious consequences, especially when less compromising alternatives are available.

- Developing exchanges between the various animal health practitioners in order to carry out the most adequate follow-ups possible with the needs of breeders and their animals

- Give advice / ideas to breeders to facilitate their daily practices while minimizing their impact on animals.

- Share with breeders / owners in order to enrich each other.

What happens during a session of osteopathy ?

The session begins with collecting informations potentially useful in understanding the animal's problem.  : medical history, diet, sports activities, specific behaviors, symptoms, etc.).

Keep in mind to inform your osteopath of any medicinal treatments administrated to your animal (anti-inflammatory drugs or chronic treatments).

It is usefull in rawing up a diagnosis of opportunity for osteopathic treatment or in the opposite case, if the symptoms presented by your animal do not relate to osteopathy, you will be  redirected  to a competent health professional (dentist, farrier, veterinarian, behaviorist, etc.).

Then a phase of general observation of the animal occurs : in static (verticalness of limbs), the manner in which it is held and the possible analgesic postures that it could adopt.

On palpation , the different areas of heat and changes in the texture of the tissues (muscle contractures, scars, changes in the appearance of the hair) will be detected.

The animal is then observed in locomotion , at different paces and on different grounds if necessary, in order to observe any irregularities .

The session continues with a phase of testing the joints of the body in order to detect areas lacking in mobility which will then be the site of " osteopathic dysfunctions ". These dysfunctions can concern both the osteoarticular structures of the back, the limbs, the joints between the bones of the skull, but also the various organs / viscera present in the abdomen.

After having detected the various dysfunctions at the origin of the symptoms presented by the animal, a treatment protocol is set up using various manual techniques. These come to act directly on the dysfunctions found and make it possible to restore a stable and neutral state to the whole body.

The session ends with advice on re-education or a rest period in the days following the consultation, or improvements concerning the animal's driving styles and living environment, in order to avoid reappearance of certain dysfunctions.
